When I started my nursing school courses I was so excited. That faded to reading fatigue, then to stress then to gaining weight! I find these days time to nurture myself scarce. Has anyone else experienced this? I am sure we have.
One of our greatest strengths is being caring; we are there for our friends, family and lovers. Somewhere we need to make time to care for ourselves; I am giving myself permission to do something for myself every day. I need to put myself first so it has to be something I enjoy and it has to be beneficial. My goal for today is to go for a walk with my dog by the river and not bring my cell phone! I am giving you permission to do something for yourself today-before you do your homework!

I feel in the same boat. Not enough time to do my homework and, to take care of myself and my family. I keep telling myself is going to be over soon. But from now on I will follow your advise and give myself permission to do something for myself or my loved ones. Only then I will reduced my stress levels, and start enjoying my nursing school again.
That’s right.. I didn’t know the stress can be the biggest harm for your health before exactly until I have started the third semester in my nursing program. It is a big concern to consider my health first.. I feel really stressed out and fatigue.. Let’s get some exercise and take proper nutrition and study!!
It’s hard to stay focused and not get overwhelmed with the hustle and stress of the nursing students life and I think that taking some TLC time for yourself is a wonderful idea will be beneficial for you as a person and a nursing student. Enjoy your walk with your dog and the TLC that you deserve and need.
Nursing, in essence, is all about service. Service for other people, the ill and the well. We all know that, especially us nurses. But sometimes we forget that essence, and so practising our profession becomes a little more difficult and challenging. When we remember the ultimate aim of nursing, our tasks become lighter, because we know why we do what we do. Even though many times during the course of our work we may experience all kinds of negative emotional experiences and stress, it helps to be reminded that since nursing is all about service and providing care, our emotional responses and personal gripes don’t really matter much. In other words, it’s not about us, it’s about them, our clients.
injoy your walk
Thank you for your kind reminder, service is at the very core of nursing, and often we need to reflect on that. The reality of cutbacks and under staffing can make a person wonder why they are working so hard. People, patients, and families-it is about them!
Thanks Gelila for reminding us what nursing is all about. School makes us all very stressed and we tend to forget that our job is to care for people and make their stay in the hospital more comfortable. Thanks again Gelila.
